On the other hand, Lowry was drafted late in the first round by Memphis in 2006, spent three seasons there and three in Houston before joining DeRozan in Canada, and they’re now one of the most dynamic duos in the league. So you’ve got one guy that was more or less on his own for a while and another who bounced around for a few years with other teams before finding some success. Do I go out on a limb and compare them to Heath Slater and Rhyno?

Think about it. DeMar DeRozan was a star in his own right, and while he doesn’t have the championship pedigree that Rhyno does, he was viable as a singles star. Now that he’s getting a little older, he just needs a little help to stay relevant. Kyle Lowry is obviously Heath Slater in this situation, and maybe wasn’t taken seriously in his stints in Memphis (Nexus) or Houston (3MB), but is now a three-time All-Star.

If you go back to last season, the Raptors were right there in the Eastern Conference, finishing just two games out of top spot.
