Ole Miss Rebels (3-3)

Last week: Win vs. Vanderbilt, 57-35
Last rank: 14th

This Ole Miss team might have some fight in them after all. After dropping three straight games on the road to Cal, Alabama and Auburn, the Rebels got back to .500 with a win at home over cross-divisional rival Vanderbilt last Saturday.

Ole Miss might have the best pure quarterback talent in the conference in true sophomore Shea Patterson. You can tell this team wants to win for interim head coach Matt Luke, but he is over his skis when going against a blue blood team in SEC play. The Rebels aren’t bowl eligible this year, but could win five to seven games and play spoiler the rest of the way.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-2)

Last week: Win vs. BYU, 35-10
Last rank: 7th

The Mississippi State Bulldogs might be coming off a big win over the BYU Cougars but that’s not an impressive fourth win for the program this year. BYU has gone in the toilet since former head coach Bronco Mendenhall took over the for the Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC two years ago.

Mississippi State will be a bowl-caliber team under head coach Dan Mullen. However, it’s hard to say the Bulldogs will win more than eight games this regular season. They still have Alabama on the schedule, but it’s not like the rest of the Bulldogs’ game aren’t winnable. Mississippi State does have a huge game this weekend versus cross-divisional foe Kentucky, so let’s start there.
