SEC power rankings, Week 8: And then there were two…

The Tennessee Volunteers might be at .500 through six games, but there is not a program in the SEC in more disarray than in Rocky Top. Tennessee is the worst coached team in the SEC. The Volunteers’ in-game execution on a weekly basis is absolutely horrendous and Butch Jones cannot return in 2018, period.
Tennessee has wins over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in overtime, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and the UMass Minutemen. That’s it. The Volunteers are 0-3 in SEC play with losses to East rivals Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. With Alabama coming up on Saturday, there is zero chance Tennessee will win that game. They are about to be 0-4 in SEC play. This team might not go bowling after all.
Remember when we thought the Vanderbilt Commodores were for real. Well, that’s not the case. Vanderbilt has had an absolutely brutal last month of games, all losses in SEC play to Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss.
Head coach Derek Mason has to be beside himself. To go from a team that could win eight or nine games to a team that may not achieve bowl eligibility in the course of a month is staggering. Vanderbilt has to go 3-2 to get to back-to-back bowls. The ‘Dores toughest game is Kentucky, but this Vanderbilt team is in a bad spot in the middle of October.
