1. Dan Majerle

If only by popular opinion locally, Majerle has quickly been advanced as a candidate to be the next Suns coach. He is the current head coach at Grand Canyon University, which is located in Phoenix, with an 81-46 record over his four seasons (49-16 record over the last two).

Majerle is a very popular player in Suns’ history, as the shooting guard on the NBA Finals team in 1993 with a cool nickname to boot (“Thunder Dan”). Overall he played eight of his 14 seasons in Phoenix, and eventually served as an assistant coach for the Suns from 2008-2013 before taking over Grand Canyon.

On the verge of the Antelopes’ season starting, Majerle is theoretically an option to take over as Suns head coach immediately. But it’s far more likely he would better entertain the possibility after the season, and not leave Grand Canyon and the kids he’s coaching in a difficult spot right now.

Majerle is surely very comfortable at Grand Canyon, and thus he may not be in any hurry to leave for any other job at any level. But the opportunity would be a unique one for him with the Suns, and he will have a tough time refusing an offer that is virtually certain to come.
