6. Third and long it doesn’t even matter

The New York Giants defense didn’t come to play today. We saw the Broncos get pounded and the Giants were in the same boat in 51-17 loss today. The Rams offense couldn’t be stopped, not even on third and 33. On a play that was intended to get the Rams into field position worked out even better than expected. Robert Woods caught the screen pass to Jared Goff and was off the races. He went untouched and cruised into the end zone for a 52-yard score.

Give the Rams credit for the screen call but this is more about the Giants awful defense. The fact that they couldn’t bring Woods down is inexcusable. Eli Apple literally watched Woods run right past him into the end zone. It’s a lost season for the Giants and this is exactly why.

5. T.Y. Hilton goes untouched

Even at the professional level we still can’t figure out who is and isn’t down. In this case, Colts wider receiver T.Y. Hilton went untouched for the 80-yard touchdown, literally. Hilton caught the slant pass from Jacoby Brissett and looked to be brought down by cornerback Kareem Jackson, but that wasn’t the case. Hilton avoided the tackle by Jackson and fell to the ground on his own. By rule, the play was not considered dead and Hilton ran another 35-yards for the touchdown.

It was a great heads-up play by Hilton. He knew he wasn’t down and was smart enough to get up and run into the end zone. The play is never over until the officials blow the whistle and it worked out in the Colts favor.

Hilton’s touchdown was the difference maker as the Colts held on for the 20-14 win.
