Jacksonville Jaguars

AFC South, (6-3)

Result: 20-17 overtime win over Los Angeles Chargers

When Deshaun Watson went down with an ACL injury, the AFC South looked open for the Jaguars to win it. Even with the Texans and Colts in a freefall, winning the division is far from a cakewalk, as the Jags still need to string together wins and prove their worth as a contender.

We saw the best and worst of Jacksonville on Sunday against the Chargers. The Jaguars defense swarmed Philip Rivers and choked out Melvin Gordon, ultimately winning the game with an interception in overtime. The constant positive this year for Jacksonville has been the defense, which is a top unit in the league. The problem, as it has been for years, is Blake Bortles and his inability to do anything right.

Borltes threw a terrible interception with under two minutes left in the game which almost cost his team a chance to win. He then almost failed to scramble out of bounds on a play that would have run the clock out before the field goal team could tie the game.

Jacksonville is keeping pace with the Titans, and it will likely be the Wild Card team if a division title isn’t secured. The defense is good enough to keep dreams of winning the AFC South alive, but the ceiling is Bortles and how far he can take the team. No one can be blamed for thinking that distance isn’t very far.
