Quarterbacks to trade away

Primary Target – Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints

New Orleans is in the middle of a seven-game winning streak and the name value of Saints quarterback Drew Brees likely couldn’t get much higher than it will be right now. Anyone who has played fantasy football for any length of time knows how proficient Brees is. The thing is, the 2017 season has seen Brees take a backseat on his own team.

While Brees has been super efficient so far this year, he hasn’t shown the ceiling so many have been accustomed to all these years. Brees has surpassed 300 yards passing in a game twice in nine games. He’s only thrown more than two touchdowns one time. He’s thrown zero or one touchdown three times so far.

It’s not like Brees is having a terrible season by any stretch. It’s just a smart move to try and sell the name value and find a new quarterback in a loaded position. The Saints have been winning with the running game and an improved defense. There’s no reason they should change that down the stretch.

Secondary Targets

Tom Brady, New England Patriots – This is another name value play as Brady has played well to this point of the season. It’s unwise to just give him away as he always has the upside for 350+ yards with multiple touchdowns. Keep in mind that in the last four weeks of the fantasy season, Brady plays Buffalo twice, Miami and Pittsburgh. Three of four of those games are in cold weather cities and the Patriots shift gameplans week to week better than any other team. New England could easily run the ball 40 times in any game.

Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions – It’s not the worst idea to try and leverage the hot streak Stafford is on right now in the trade market. He’s exceeded 300 yards in three of his last four games with eight touchdowns. However, his rest of season schedule features five of six games against teams that are in the top 10 against the quarterback position. Stafford is the Lions offense but his schedule is brutal.
