Winning a fantasy football championship usually requires at least one well-timed and shrewd trade to propel a squad to the promised land.

Fantasy football is about timing. It takes the right timing to pick which week to start or sit a player. It could also mean the right time to make a trade that can change the course of your season. Most fantasy football leagues have their trade deadline sometime this week. That clock is ticking and it’s time to make a big move.

This article will discuss some trade targets to acquire and some targets that could be traded away. Each of the four major positions will be discussed from both angles: quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and tight end.

There’s one important thing to remember when approaching other teams about trades. The best way to get a deal done is to understand what the other team needs. Let’s say one team is stacked at wide receiver but has very little at the running back position other than Carlos Hyde. It’s not the best idea to ask that owner for Hyde and offer a good receiver. It doesn’t do the other side any good and that trade is likely to get rejected. The deal has a much better chance to get made if one side offers a running back and ask for a receiver back. The other team is important as well.

Quarterbacks to acquire

Primary Target – Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

For some unknown reason, Dak Prescott always seems underrated for fantasy football purposes. Maybe it’s because running back Ezekiel Elliott has garnered more headlines(good and bad) since last season. Running back is a scarcer position in fantasy than quarterback, so Zeke has more weight put on him. However, Prescott finished as a top six QB last season and is on track to get into the top five this season.

He’s going to have to shoulder a larger share of the offense with Elliott not in the lineup. It didn’t get off to a great start on Sunday as the Atlanta defense totally destroyed the Dallas offensive line. He somewhat salvaged his day with a rushing touchdown. His end of the season schedule looks pretty easy as well.

Dallas faces Philly, Los Angeles Chargers, Washington, New York Giants, Oakland, and Seattle. Not only does Prescott draw Seattle at home, they will be without cornerback Richard Sherman at least. That matchup doesn’t look nearly as bad as it did at the beginning of the season. Prescott could be somewhat pricey in a trade but he is worth pursuing.

Secondary Targets

Tyrod Taylor, Buffalo Bills – The Bills added wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and Taylor has a cupcake schedule the rest of the way. New England twice in the last four weeks is a boost to Taylor as the Patriots defense has been putrid so far.his price probably won’t get much lower after the Bills got whitewashed by New Orleans on Sunday.

Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans – If you can ride out one more poor matchup(at Pittsburgh this Thursday night), Mariota should be able to finish strong after a very mediocre season thus far. Mariota looked as healthy as he’s been all season and had a few solid runs against the Bengals. that’s a very good sign moving forward. He faces Indianapolis, Houston, Arizona, San Francisco, and the Rams in Tennessee to polish off the year.
