3. Sam Darnold

While the decision to start Peterman feels like a move to give up on this season, it could also put the Bills in line for a top-10 pick if things really go downhill. But trades also landed them some extra picks in in the first three rounds of next year’s draft, including the Kansas City Chiefs first-round pick via a draft trade in April. That could put a trade up for a quarterback on the radar, and make it very feasible with the draft picks to make the move, and someone like Darnold may be a  target.

Some of the prospect shine from last year is off Darnold now, as he has thrown 11 interceptions this year. But he has been better of late, with back-to-back 300-yard games and a 7:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio over his last three games heading into Saturday’s game against UCLA. A continued strong finish could raise his stock, and make it a no-brainer to leave school early.

But there’s no guarantee Darnold declares for next year’s draft, and there have been multiple reports suggesting he will stay in school. But if he leaves USC, the Bills should be in the mix to draft a quarterback early and it’s easy to see Darnold emerging as the apple of their eye.
