5 quarterbacks who could lead the Buffalo Bills in 2018
2. Nathan Peterman
After going 7-for-10 for 79 yards and the team’s only touchdown last week, with the game situation firmly in mind for skeptics, Peterman is getting his shot to start.
Over his two seasons at Pitt, Peterman completed over 61 percent of his passes with 47 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions and an average of 8.3 yards per attempt. How any of that will translate to the NFL now is anyone’s guess, but Peterman did lead the ACC in yards per attempt (9.3) and passer rating (163.4) last year.
Jon Gruden puts quarterback prospects through his “Quarterback Camp” ringer each year before the draft. So what he wrote about Peterman stands out, even as high-level hyperbole about a guy that wound up being the 171st overall pick.
"Peterman is ready to walk in and be a contributor from day one,” Gruden wrote on ESPN.com in April. “He just looks like a pro quarterback — coming out of the huddle, running an offense with different formations, shifting, motioning, different patterns that other colleges don’t run. Peterman will recognize route combinations and associate formations."
"Most importantly, he will be able to get in a huddle from day one and look at 10 grown men and tell them where to go and what to do and handle a versatile snap count,"
Peterman may prove himself to be the quarterback of the present and future for the Bills. Being the guy McDermott and Beane took in their first draft may even give him multiple chances, for better or worse.
