2. Arizona Cardinals

Larry Fitzgerald has theoretically committed to playing at least one more season in 2018, which would give whoever the Cardinals quarterback is a Hall of Fame No. 1 target. Carson Palmer has one year left on his own contract, which now matches up with Fitzgerald, but it’s far from certain he returns after an injury-shortened season this year and with his 38th birthday rapidly approaching.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians likes to be aggressive and throw the ball downfield, which would fit Taylor’s proficiency as a deep ball thrower quite well. His mobility could also open up the playbook a bit and help cover up any offensive line shortcomings, whereas a pocket passer like Palmer is a sitting duck and offers nothing as a runner.

Taylor could also be signed simply to upgrade the situation behind Palmer next year, and thus be in line to be his successor in 2019. Some sort of clear path to a starting job next year would surely be Taylor’s preference, along with a lucrative contract. But Arizona is a situation that is appealing enough right now to change his thinking on those fronts, even if Palmer is back next year.
