Every NBA team’s worst Thanksgiving road trip companion
L.A. Lakers: Magic Johnson
“Alright, Magic. Which way should we go?”
“There are so many great roads to take on the map today. Some of my personal favorites are taking 5 Mile to Beck and getting on M14. You can also take 5 Mile to Sheldon and get on M14 from there. There aren’t a lot of entrance ramps to M14, so if you can get one of those you’re in good shape.”
“Just look at Google Maps, Magic. Which is the fastest route?”
“Additionally, other routes include taking 5 Mile to Ridge Road and then take that to North Territorial. From North Territorial, you can get on M14 at Gotfredson, or you can take it all the way to Pontiac Trail. Pontiac Trail will take you all the way to Ann Arbor, if that’s where you want to go.”
“We both know that it is, Magic.”
“Ann Arbor Road is also a good choice if you want to have the chance to get on M14 at Ford Road. Some of my other favorite routes include skipping M14 completely and taking 275 down to I-94. I-94 is a great freeway, which isn’t to say that M14 also isn’t a good freeway.”
“I understand. I just want to know which route is best.”
“But the freeway isn’t the only way. The Showtime Lakers were nothing without Bird’s Celtics. They were different styles, but both could take you to the championship. Surface streets and freeways are both viable options.”
“Please, Magic.”
“If you don’t want to take a car, there are also excellent bike trails.”
