Loser: Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 1 down to No. 5)

Down, but certainly not out. For the first time this season, Alabama is not sitting in the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25. The Crimson Tide had been knocked from that top spot in the playoff rankings by Georgia a few weeks earlier, but the Bulldogs fell to the Auburn Tigers as well.

The Crimson Tide knew that a road game against the hottest team in the SEC, the Auburn Tigers, wouldn’t be easy, and they found out the hard way. They traveled to Jordan-Hare for the annual Iron Bowl game but the Tigers were looking for revenge for last year’s defeat.

Alabama was upended, meaning the Tide won’t be playing for a conference title for the first time since 2013 when Auburn won on the wild kick-six play to swipe the tie-breaker for the division title. Well, Auburn played spoiler yet again.

The Tigers ruined Alabama’s clear path to the playoff and now the Crimson Tide must root for teams ahead of them to lose their conference title games. However, the playoff committee might be kind to the tide despite this one loss seeing as they were 11-0 before this.
