3. New head coaches make their splash

With early National Signing Day providing a new wrinkle in the format, it meant brand new coaches had to get right to work on locking down prospects. There was no time to breathe, and that meant the new coaches around the nation had to step in and get their guys.

Dan Mullen had one of the better days of the new head coaches. The Florida Gators coach was able to get his quarterback and ended up dealing a big blow to Ohio State in the process. Emory Jones appeared to be Ohio State bound, but shocked everyone by switching to Florida.

Now, the Gators have a quarterback for Mullen to mold. Elsewhere around the country, Chip Kelly brought in six commits to UCLA and signed a couple of talented receivers in Kyle Phillips and Chase Cota.

UCLA was up near the top 10 in the rankings, and Kelly might be able to push this thing up in there if he can make some splashes before February rolls around. In Lincoln, Scott Frost was able to secure a LOI from quarterback Adrian Martinez. The Cornhuskers were able to lock up several commits, including JUCO wide receiver Jaron Woodyard.

It will be interesting to see the fallout that this new process has, but it certainly makes it all the more difficult for coaches that are just taking over a program.
