One New Year’s resolution for every NBA team
Atlanta Hawks – Let your true colors shine through
When was the last time we saw a nice, thorough Baze Gaze? You know the ones I’m talking about. The ones that reach into your soul and pull out a smile. The ones that go through the back of your head and shine a rainbow on the wall behind you. That’s what we need. That’s what I want.
I will admit one thing: Kent Bazemore is not a color. He is a human basketball player person. When I said “color” I meant it in a metamaphoricalish sense.
I miss the days of peak Baze Gaze. There was video-bombing and there were celebrations. When was the last time you saw any of this?
When he signed his contract, I’m sure there were some moments like that, but here we are now. Bazemore is on a team actively avoided. His best teammate is Dennis Schroder’s yellow splotch and the basketball player attached to it. That’s not a recipe for fun. I don’t know how to cook, but I watched Good Eats a couple times, so I’m pretty sure I know how things work.
So what the Hawks need to do is go for a game in which only Bazemore shoots. There’s nothing else to play for. There’s no hope here. Winning games is actually something to be avoided. If you want to bring in fans, a slightly less uncompetitive team is not the answer. The answer is Kent Bazemore, and only Kent Bazemore.
It’s simple, really.
