High Value PG

Ish Smith, DET at ORL ($5,500): With Reggie Jackson out for up to two months, Smith will be asked to step up for the Pistons. He did well as a starter last season, averaging 26.3 fantasy points in 32 games and hitting value in 69 percent of contests. The good news for Smith is that he can ease into things against a Magic team that ranks last against point guards in their last 15 games. Smith has the ability to greatly outplay his salary and I think he’ll do just that. ****

Tony Parker, SA vs NY ($4,100): Parker has been right at value in three straight, but did manage 29.5 fantasy points against the Clippers on Dec. 18. This one is largely about the matchup as the Knicks are 28th against the position and on a back-to-back. Parker continues to play more minutes, which is a good sign for his production. He’s shooting the ball well and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be held to one assist like he was against the Nets. He’s a nice low-salary player who should be at 20 fantasy points and helps you spend elsewhere. ***

Tyus Jones, MIN at MIL ($3,600): It’s not confirmed that Jeff Teague will be out on Thursday, but given his reaction, it’s a pretty safe bet that he’ll miss extended time. That means Jones will be slotted back into the role of starting point guard. He averaged 40.8 fantasy points as the starter when Teague went down with an injury earlier this season. He’s going to get heavy minutes and with his low salary, he should be well above expectations. *****
