Cross-country Skiing: “The Distance” – Cake
I learned a few things in college, but mostly this. You can never had a bad day when a Cake some comes on. You might be forced to ski across a country but, if you’re going the distance, you’re going to need to hear Cake going “The Distance.”
It’s probably their most signature song and it’s about a guy that really sucks at running a marathon or something. To me, it makes cross-country skiing all the more better. In this event, I’m never cheering for who finishes first, but the sad guy or gal that just can’t get it together in the snow. Walking in snow is hard, but having to race people on skis us just plain mean sometimes.
Afterwards, you might win a medal or not. Regardless, you can definitely go back to the Olympic village and have some cake and eat it to because you’re an olympian while cranking some Cake while to stop freezing. Sacramento, where you at? The other side of the ocean from Pyeongchang, that’s where.
“The Distance” is probably the most versatile Olympics song of all-time. It works in the snow for this activity. You can even do on things it might have been intended for like marathons and especially Olympic power walking. The transition from verse to chorus in this song is amazing and it almost makes me want to make a dang fool of myself and become a cross-country skier for American. I’m not yet 30, so I’ve got some time. 2022, you better be ready, ’cause I’m going the distance for ‘Murica.
