Miami Dolphins free agency 2018: Top 6 targets
By Joe Romano
Nigel Bradham, LB
Former team: Philadelphia Eagles
A third position of need for the Dolphins is interior linebacker. The free agent class is short handed at this position. One name to keep an eye on is Philadelphia Eagles’ linebacker Nigel Bradham.
The former fourth round pick out of Florida State finally found a spot to succeed in Philadelphia. Bradham led the team in tackles after taking over for the injured Jordan Hicks up the middle. He is a solid player who can play on all three downs for a team that may not have a player on their defense who can do that.
Rookie Chase Allen and veteran Lawrence Timmons are the Dolphins current starters. Neither are an elite option. Allen was an undrafted free agent out of Southern Illinois. He started only four games this past season.
Timmons is a 31-year-old linebacker who was a former first round pick in 2007 out of Florida State. He left Pittsburgh this past offseason to sign with the Dolphins. Unfortunately the former Pro Bowl linebacker’s best days are behind him.
This is a position the Dolphins could address in the draft. There are few elite options at the middle linebacker position this season but a player like Roquon Smith would drastically change their defense.
Bradham may be the perfect fit for Miami. He will not demand the money of high profile players like Malcolm Butler or Trumaine Johnson. Bradham helps the defense, is not an aging veteran and can be the quarterback of this defense.
