2018 Senior Bowl: 5 Players who improved stock
By Joe Schiller
4. Kyle Lauletta
Speaking of quarterbacks, how about Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta? It was a rough week for the South quarterbacks with the hype surrounding Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen. As an FCS product, Lauletta didn’t come into the Senior Bowl with the same kind of excitement but that changed after the conclusion of Saturday’s game.
It was the South that came away with a 46-15 rout over the North thanks to Lauletta. He took a tough week of practice and made it count during a game situation. Lauletta finished the game 8 of 12 for 198 passing yards and three touchdowns. Most importantly, he stayed clean in the turnover department. The performance was enough to earn Lauletta game MVP honors and he boosted his stock through the roof.
A three-year starter at Richmond, Lauletta faced some of the top secondary players and carved them up. We’ve seen FCS quarterbacks have success in the NFL and while Lauletta isn’t projected to be a first-round pick, he’s going to be a mid-round target for many teams. Bringing him on to an NFL roster and having him sit behind a proven veteran could work wonders.
One game isn’t something to overhype about but Lauletta did nothing to hurt his NFL draft stock. He’s experienced, intelligent, and showed he can play against top-level talent. That’s why the Senior Bowl is a great scouting event. Regardless of school, everyone is on the same level playing field in Mobile.
