Nick Foles is named Super Bowl 52 MVP
Super Bowl LII was one of the greatest games ever played in NFL history, and Nick Foles walked away with the MVP award.
In one of the greatest performances we’ve seen by an underdog, the Philadelphia Eagles were able to overcome the New England Patriots and thwart their hopes of a sixth Super Bowl. At the forefront of that effort was backup quarterback Nick Foles, who threw for 373 yards and a touchdown in a 41-33 win.
Foles was named the Super Bowl MVP for his efforts, etching his name in Philadelphia lore for all of time. Foles was signed this offseason after he spent last year as Alex Smith’s backup with the Kansas City Chiefs. After sitting on the bench for the first three months of the season, Foles was pressed into duty when Carson Wentz tore his ACL against the Los Angeles Rams in early December.
Foles was able to guide the Eagles to the top seed in the NFC playoffs before beating the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings, getting Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl since 2004. The Eagles were the first team in league history to be the underdog as a top seed in the Divisional round, let alone in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl.
