Oakland Raiders: Jon Gruden will change the culture

After months of speculation, the Oakland Raiders finally have their prized possession as head coach. Jon Gruden came out of the broadcasting booth for $100 million and reunites with his former team. Jack Del Rio’s tenure was short-lived and he’s better suited in a complementary role than the face of a franchise. This is exactly the move the Raiders needed to make and it’s a huge boost for the organization going forward.

Gruden lives and breaths football. Without the sport, he’s not the same person. After winning a Super Bowl with the Buccaneers in 2004, Gruden retired but couldn’t control his itch for too long. While this is certainly a nostalgic move by the Raiders, Gruden brings more to the table than ticket sales. He has the opportunity to create his culture and bring a new dynamic to the organization.

Gruden brings his hard-nosed nature to a team that needs it the most. The Raiders have had plenty of talent but often times we’ve seen them perform below expectations. Quarterback Derek Carr is a prime example. After signing his mega-deal before the 2017 season, Carr performed average at best. This is where Gruden comes in and has the ability to bring out the best in his players. He’s known to be harsh on the surface but that’s for the betterment of the team.

This isn’t a rebuild for the Raiders but the beginning of a new era. The city of Oakland deserves a Super Bowl title before the Raiders depart to Las Vegas. We’ve seen Gruden do it before and there’s no doubt we could see his patent smirk holding up a Lombardi trophy next season.
