Meet your U.S. Olympic curling team for Pyeongchang 2018
By Jake Ellis
Meet your United States representatives for curling at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The United States curling team for Pyeongchang consists of three different teams: women’s, men’s and mixed doubles teams are all participating in the 2018 Winter Olympics. The men’s and women’s team are both made up of five members, while the mixed doubles team only consists of two.
The leader of the women’s team is two-time national champion Nina Roth. Roth is joined by Tabitha Peterson, Aileen Geving, Becca Hamilton, and Cory Christensen. The women’s team will all be going off of zero Olympic experience as every team member is making their Olympic debuts. This may be the team’s first Olympics, but they have some past experience working together, as they all finished fifth at the 2017 World Women’s Championship.
The men’s team will be led by John Shuster, who is a four-time Olympian and will captain the team for the third straight Olympics after he took home the bronze in 2006 in Torino as captain for that team as well. One of his teammates is John Landsteiner, who was his teammate in 2014 in Sochi as well, and Joe Polo, who was his teammate in 2006. Each of them will be making their second Olympic appearances while Tyler Gordon, who is the vice skip, and Matt Hamilton will be making their rookie Olympic appearances.
The mixed doubles team is made up of siblings Becca Hamilton and Matt Hamilton. The Hamiltons won the 2018 United States mixed doubles team trials and will also compete for their second medal on both the men’s and women’s teams, respectively.
