The more games I see like Gonzaga’s victory over Saint Mary’s last Thursday, the more I am sure that Tillie is not a star. But Brooklyn needs gifted players, not a star, yet.
The best NBA comparison I can imagine for Tillie is Mirza Teletovic, a fantastic role player who can come in at the forward spot and give his team instant shooting. The nifty thing about Tillie (as well as Teletovic) is that he can make some of the mid-range shots as well that open up when people play the 3-point line aggressively.
Tillie can also move his body well enough to survive on defense, despite an unimpressive wingspan and physical traits. Teletovic survived on the Milwaukee Bucks, an extremely aggressive defense team, by filling space and standing near the rim. Tillie can be hidden in the right matchups defensively.
In Brooklyn’s system, Tillie would be in a position to produce immediately and make the lives of the Nets’ various guards easier.
