Missouri. Jontay Porter. 29. player. 125. . F/C

Porter’s weaknesses have been exposed in a frustrating way over the course of conference play, despite coach Cuonzo Martin wringing so much success out of Missouri’s roster.

On Tuesday night against Texas A&M, Porter looked worst when he took his game into the post and tried to score over the Aggie bigs. Defending on the interior is one of A&M’s biggest strengths — it is not what Porter does best. Porter missed two hook shots early in the game, including one air-ball. He is under-sized compared to most bigs, having not yet grown into his frame. He can’t finish, so he must try those kinds of shots more often than not.

But all of this points to an unfinished product, not a bust.

Porter can launch spot-up threes quickly. He can also drive to the rim from the perimeter, meaning as a freshman he already has an offensive package that is difficult to guard.

If he can fill out, continue to develop his shot and try on defense, he appears to have the gifts of a NBA rotation player.
