2018 NBA Mock Draft: Trae Young could reset the Kings backcourt
As we ramp up toward March Madness, the prospects in the draft are starting to separate themselves into tiers in the latest edition of our 2018 NBA mock draft.
The order for this mock draft is based upon 538’s CARM-Elo projections as of Jan. 26. For each pick, team needs are taken into consideration, as well as fit.
One of the best things about Golden State’s offensive system is that it finds open shots for lesser athletes. It’s a big reason why Shamet could be the Warriors’ guy in this year’s draft.
We’ve seen the success guys like Shaun Livingston and Nick Young have had, receiving more open shots than they’ve ever seen in their careers. Shamet is similar in that he is very good at a specific set of things but not an elite offensive player overall. When you play next to Steph Curry and Kevin Durant, all you really have to do is knock down open shots and play smart basketball.
Shamet has his own gravitational pull for the Shockers, but he would benefit from that of others in Golden State. He is a knockdown shooter from all areas, but isn’t at his best finishing at the rim. If he were in a situation where shooting was his primary responsibility, it would be ideal.
At that point, his passing and speed would be mere cherries on top of the Warriors’ delicious cake.
