Olympic curling: Women’s round robin results session 5 and 6
By Staff
Here are the results and scores from session 5 and 6 of the Olympic women’s curling round robin tournament.
With three sessions a day in Pyeongchang, curling plays all through the night in the United States. There’s a 7 p.m. ET game, followed by a midnight ET game, followed by a 6 a.m. ET game. It’s a lot of curling! And classic curling, compared to mixed doubles, can be quite a long, tense match.
On Feb. 17 in South Korea, the women played two sessions in their round robin tournament — 5 and 6, at 7 p.m. ET Feb. 16 and 6 a.m ET Feb. 17, respectively. Here are the results and scores of those games.
Round robin session 5
Sweden 8, Switzerland 7
After falling behind 4-1 after three ends, Sweden rallied with six points over three ends to take an 8-4 lead with two ends left. But the Swedes still had to sweat out a late rally that ended up falling just short, ensuring they remained undefeated in round robin play.
USA 7, Olympic Athletes of Russia 6
These two teams needed an extra end to settle things in what was a close affair throughout and saw the sides trade off one point apiece over the final four ends. But one point in the 11th end was enough to finish it, and Team USA prevailed.
China 7, Japan 6
China looked like it might have been headed for a loss until getting a big triple in the eighth end. Japan forced an extra end by scoring one in the 10th only to fall in the 11th, their first loss in round robin play.
Great Britain 7, Denmark 6
Great Britain also finds itself at 3-1 after four rounds thanks to a performance that saw them score three doubles. Denmark’s six single-point ends, including the 10th, weren’t quite enough.
Round robin session 6
Japan 10, OAR 5
Japan fell behind early to the Olympic Athletes of Russia, but three doubles and a triple, two of which came in the last three ends, ensured a comfortable victory.
China 10, Denmark 7
China started and finished its contest against Denmark in style, scoring four points in the first and last end to come away with the win.
Korea 7, Great Britain 4
Korea scored five of its seven points in the last three ends to overcome Great Britain in dramatic fashion and improve its record to 3-1.
Canada 11, USA 3
Canada dominated its contest against the United States, scoring 11 points in only seven ends, including four in the seventh.
