Where are the 2022 Olympics?
As soon as the 2018 Winter Olympic Games conclude, the torch will pass to the host of the 2022 Olympic games. Which city will host the 2022 Games?
When a host city is awarded the Olympic Games they have to start working to prepare for the event even if it’s several years away. The 2018 Winter Olympics are here, but the host city for the 2022 Games is already hard at work making sure that things are ready for them. As soon as the 2018 Games are over, the torch will be passed to the next host city: Beijing.
The 2022 Olympics will take place in Beijing, which follows the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. Beijing, like Tokyo, is used to working with large numbers of people moving through the city, but even the most prepared city needs to work hard to be ready for the influx of athletes and fans from across the globe who travel to the Olympics to cheer for their countries.
Beijing has a bit of experience dealing with huge Olympics crows as the city played host to the 2008 Summer Olympics. There was a great deal of controversy surrounding the 2008 games as Beijing’s air quality was so poor that the government implemented no-drive days where Beijing residents were told not to drive on certain days so as to limit cars on the road and, in turn, decrease the amount of smog in the air. The efforts paid off, and the air quality was much improved by the time the games began.
This time around, Beijing is hosting the Winter Games so air quality is still a concern. The city still has a lot of the 2008 infrastructure in place that can be reconfigured for winter events, so all they really need is snow. Some of the events, presumably the outdoor events like skiing, will take place in nearby Hebei province.
The 2022 Olympic Games will take place February 4-20, 2022.
