Olympics women’s hockey semifinal, USA vs. Finland highlights, updated bracket and more
Team USA beat Finland 5-0 in Olympics women’s hockey to ensure their spot in the gold medal game
The first of the two Olympics women’s hockey semifinal games went precisely as expected. There has only been one Olympics gold medal game that didn’t feature Team USA (2006). With America’s 5-0 win over Finland, they advance to yet another gold medal game.
From the opening face-off, Team USA showed an impressive killer instinct. Gigi Marvin scored just 2:25 into the game, with captain Meghan Duggan and Amanda Pelkey picking up the assists. With under two minutes left in the first period, Dani Cameranesi capitalized on a turnover by scoring Team USA’s second goal of the period.
In the second period, Finland committed two penalties in under a minute. Team USA made them pay. Jocelyne Lamoureux continued her Olympics success by picking up the third goal of the game 13 minutes into the second period. On her goal, Cameranesi and Kelly Pannek picked up the assists. A mere 34 second later, star forward Hilary Knight picked up her first goal of the tournament. Sidney Morin and Kendall Coyne got the assists on her goal.
Cameranesi iced the game with another power play goal in the third period. Overall, Team USA finally showed that willingness to get dirty and score goals. This is very encouraging going into the gold medal game.
