The additions on offense continue for the Broncos in the third round with the selection of talented Miami Hurricanes tight end Chris Herndon.

Herndon (6-foot-4 and 245 pounds) is one of few tight ends in this class that is athletic enough to be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. After sitting behind former first-rounder David Njoku in 2016, Herndon was the Canes’ main weapon at tight end last season, catching four touchdown passes before a knee injury prematurely ended his year.

One of the easiest ways to get an offense going is to have a reliable target at tight end, and Herndon could be that guy for whatever quarterback is manning the Broncos’ offense in 2018. If it’s Cousins, we’ve already seen just how much success he’s had with Jordan Reed and Herndon is a similar type of player. He’s not much of an in-line blocker but more than capable of making some special things happen after the catch, as Miami even tried to get him in space as much as possible during his collegiate career.

Virgil Green will be hitting the free agent market soon and pairing him with last year’s fifth-round selection Jake Butt would give Denver a solid young tight end corps to work with for the future.
