2018 NFL Draft: Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock
By Conor Dorney
The Eagles haven’t selected an offensive lineman in the first three rounds since Lane Johnson (first round, 2013), which makes me think they’ll more likely look for a developmental mid-round tackle in this draft.
TCU’s Joseph Noteboom (6-foot-5 and 319 pounds) is an athletic tackle prospect who manned left tackle last season for the Horned Frogs. Like current Eagles and former TCU tackle Halapoulivaati Vaiti, Noteboom plays well in space and has strong hands but his technique remains a bit unrefined. He allowed four or fewer quarterback hits in 2016, according to Pro Football Focus, and adding Noteboom in the fourth would give Philadelphia a bit more comfort with their depth at tackle heading into next season.
Two consecutive picks to end the fourth round give Philadelphia the opportunity to add more depth at the tight end position with the selection of former Fighting Irish standout Durham Smythe.
Smythe (6-foot-5 and 257 pounds) isn’t much of a threat in the receiving game, but rather makes his mark as an in-line blocker. With Trey Burton slated to hit free agency and Brent Celek doing the same next year, the Eagles could look to add a tight end for the future. Zach Ertz has proven himself as one of the best at the position over the past several years and the addition of Smythe would be a great value pick at the end of the fourth round.
