4. Upgrade at corner

The Lions boast a quality safety tandem and one of the five best corners in football, but beyond that, the secondary has major problems.

Quandre Diggs proved he’s an excellent sub-package option as well, but this is a team that desperately needs a quality corner opposite Darius Slay.

The aptly named Slay emerged as one of the five best cornerbacks in football last season if there had been any previous questions, but the passing defense still finished 16th in DVOA. If the Lions want to compete with the best teams in the NFC, they’ll have to beat guys like Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Carson Wentz, Russell Wilson, Jared Goff, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Dak Prescott … and I could continue.

Suffice it to say, if a team has any prayer of the competing in a loaded NFC, it better have cover corners. The Lions need more than just Slay to consistently defend these top quarterbacks.
