What do you do when playing Fortnite?

As soon as you pick your spot and land in Fortnite, the first thing you’ll want to do is gather resources. As up to 99 other competitors are skydiving into the map at the same time, it is imperative you pick up guns and ammo immediately and get yourself away from danger. Unless you have a good chance to shoot and kill an enemy without bringing too much attention to your location, survival is the most important aspect of play.

As soon as you find your weapons, you’ll want to chop down trees, houses and cars in order to accumulate wood, brick and metal — the main materials for crafting. These will allow you to build structures such as ramps, roofs, walls, forts and even traps that offer you protection, as having a well-protected fortification that players don’t know you’re in gives you an advantage in the game.

You shouldn’t stay in the same spot for long, however (unless the storm has closed in on the final dozen players), as you’ll want to upgrade your gear to fend off other threats. There are pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, grenade launchers and special weapons to find littered across the map, ranging in effectiveness and rarity from common (grey) to legendary (orange). The rarer the gun, the more damage it does.

Essentially, you want to stock up weapons and resources, move from spot to spot, craft fortifications and traps to your benefit and shoot down enemies until you become the last one standing. You can also play with a friend or two, changing up the dynamics as you work as a team to outlast the rest of the competition.
