How much does Fortnite Battle Royale really cost?

Technically, you could load up a character in Fortnite Battle Royale and never pay Epic Games a dime. There’s nothing you could pay for in this game that allows you to get an advantage competitively, as nothing you can earn will improve the stats of your gear or give you an advantage in what you start out each match with compared to completely unpaying players.

The aesthetically-pleasing gear you can unlock for free, however, is few and far between, as it can take days to unlock scraps that Epic Games gives you. You can, however, opt to pay $9.99 a season (usually lasts a couple of months) or $24.99 for permanent access to a Battle Pass, allowing you to unlock more than a hundred in-game unlocks for outfits, weapon skins, cheers, loading screens, specifics dances and more.

If you don’t want to earn specific unlocks and pay for your own, you can also pay real money for specific in-game items, including specific emotes and harvesting tool designs. That way, you can decide to invest in one of few item sets you truly want to play with over and over again without forking over too much money.
