3. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are building something back toward the franchise’s past standards, with a win streak to end the 2017 season, a commitment to Jimmy Garoppolo as their quarterback, a top-10 pick in April’s draft and the fifth-most salary cap space in the league right now.

If the Seahawks had tried to trade Sherman, they probably don’t consider a rising division rival to be an ideal partner. But the 49ers no longer have to worry about that obstacle. Additionally, Sherman is from California and played his college ball down the road at Palo Alto.

Sherman would surely like to stay in the NFC West and play the Seahawks twice a season. The prospect of a healthy and highly-motivated Sherman would be something for general manager John Lynch to seek in a player, and much like last offseason the 49ers should be among the possible landing spots that surface.

Lastly, the 49ers are in a position to outbid almost any team in the league save the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets, two rebuilding organizations. It’s tough to imagine Sherman playing there.
