Round 4 – Pick 115

Austin Corbett, G, Nevada

When Chicago declined to pick up the option for guard Josh Sitton they opened up a hole on their offensive line. The Bears are set at tackle and center with Charles Leno Jr, Bobby Massie and Cody Whitehair. With Kyle Long returning from injury in 2018, that is one guard spot secured. Opposite Long is where the team needs to find someone to fill in.

Austin Corbett of Nevada is a fascinating late day two/early day three prospect that can man that spot. The former tackle will make the transition inside at the NFL. Playing outside at Nevada he showed excellent athleticism and even better strength with his first strike. That first strike pops on tape. Corbette routinely strikes a defender so hard that the defender just hits the floor, it’s incredibly impressive. However the lack of length will push him inside to guard.

The team that grabs Corbett will get a smart football player who will work his tail off. His excellent first strike and balance in the passing game will translate really well at guard in the NFL. The 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds former walk-on turned team captain is a high character player as well. In a deep and extremely talented offensive guard class, Corbett can be a starter despite being a day three pick.

With Corbett rounding out the offensive line, star running back Jordan Howard should find plenty of space to run. This move benefits Trubisky as well in the new Matt Nagy led offense.
