Round 4 – Pick 105

Donte Jackson, CB, LSU

Chicago has a decision to make at the corner position. Both starters, Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara, are set to hit the open market. Amukamara is the likely man out. Fuller, the former first round pick, had his best season as a pro and is only 26 years old. Chicago opted not to pick up his fifth year option, which will force them to hand out a long term deal this offseason to keep him. Behind those two is solid but not exceptional depth. In a deep corner class, the Bears could find a partner for Fuller at the beginning of day three.

Donte Jackson of LSU is that guy in this scenario. The speedy corner is on record that he wants to break John Ross’ record in the 40-yard dash at the combine. With that kind of speed, it will be shocking to see him fall to the fourth round. Speed is not all this guy brings to the table.

The closing speed, paired with exceptional overall athleticism allow Jackson to take big risks that pay-off for the defense. Jackson is able to make up for his sub-par instincts with that speed and burst. This could be one of those guys that sneaks into the end of round one just given those traits.

Being only 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, measurements will be important in Indianapolis. He needs to show his elite speed with solid arm length to be considered a high end corner prospect. In this instance he is available in round four and would be great value for the Bears.
