NFL commissioner Roger Goodell ran the 40-yard dash in his office because of course he did. He also wasn’t all that bad at it, as he challenged Rich Eisen.

The 2018 NFL Scouting Combine is starting to wind down on Monday up in Indianapolis. All weekend long, we’ve got to see NFL Draft hopefuls run and jump and lift things in their underwear. Nothing is more important than one’s 40-yard dash time. It’s so important that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell got in on the action…from his New York office.

Yes, Goodell decided to run the 40 in business attire. He probably felt that if Rich Eisen of the NFL Network could attempt to do it in Indianapolis, then why couldn’t he run 120 feet in his office. He is the commissioner of the NFL.

Goodell ran a 5.41 40-yard dash. That is 0.45 seconds better than former Oklahoma Sooners left tackle Orlando Brown and nearly 0.60 seconds better than Eisen’s best time. So we know that the NFL commissioner is faster than Baker Mayfield’s former blind side protector and most certainly Eisen. He even challenged the main man for NFL Network. Total power move.

Goodell had at least a dozen of his employees timing his run. He did say that “it was better than last time.” The big question is if Goodell would have been faster in penny loafers than Brown and Eisen? Now that would have been amazing if Goodell could run a 5.84 in dress shoes. That would be the ultimate power move.

Basically, what this office corridor sprint taught us is that Goodell can sort of fly a bit. He’s not the greatest athlete of all time, but we know he’s faster than Brown and Eisen and that’s all that matters.

Surely, this will lead to other former athletes trying to do 40-yard dashes in their office space. The only problem is that many of us are former athletes. We can’t run like we did in our youth and sinew isn’t as strong as it was in our formative years. What’s more painful? Getting beat by Goodell in a 40-yard dash or shredding your ACL on the carpet in front of your colleagues?

Exactly, but we do now know the tremendous foot speed of Goodell. It should be the baseline for all office athletic competitions from here on out. So how fast are you at the 40-yard dash? If you’re fasting than 5.41, Roger that for sure.
