Zay Jones is the Buffalo Sabres’ newest and biggest fan
Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Zay Jones has just discovered how awesome hockey is. Unfortunately, his chosen team is the snakebitten Buffalo Sabres.
Following a good rookie season and the Buffalo Bills’ first playoff appearance in 17 years, wideout Zay Jones is getting the full Buffalo sports experience tonight as he attends his first-ever hockey game (!).
Unfortunately, it is not a good time to jump on the Sabres bandwagon. Their season has been a major disappointment so far, and they are building up a pretty impressive playoff drought of their own.
The first thing Jones will notice at the game is that no one will be getting thrown through a table in the parking lot. Key Bank Center has been a pretty quiet place this season. The Sabres have a very poor record at home this year.
To make matters worse, the Sabres’ best player, Jack Eichel, is out due to an injury. Jones will be rooting for players such as Ryan O’ Reilly and Samson Reinhart to continue to carry the team while Eichel is injured.
The good news for Zay Jones is the Calgary Flames are a fun team to watch. Talented players like Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau have the Flames in the middle of a playoff chase.
Jones didn’t seem to understand the potential heartbreak in store for him as he took his seat at Key Bank Center:

Jones was pretty hyped about the experience early in the game:

Unfortunately, the Sabres quickly fell into a 0-4 hole. But if Jones is loving hockey this much when his chosen team is atrocious, just wait until Buffalo finds its footing!
It is not a Sunday at New Era Field, but the hockey is still great to watch. Bills teammates Tyrod Taylor and LeSean McCoy have been to games in the past and had a great time.
The entire city of Buffalo rallies around the hashtag #OneBuffalo, a phrase made popular the owners of both the Bills and the Sabres the Pegula family. It represents the city becoming unified and growing together as the city of Buffalo completes its revival. Whenever the two Buffalo sports teams cross paths it triggers a #OneBuffalo twitter storm.
Next: Should Jack Eichel return this season?
Zay Jones is just the latest chapter in the story of the two teams bringing the community together. Hopefully, some of the Bills magic from this season will rub off on the Sabres while Zay is there.
