5 boxers bound for boxing’s pound-for-pound list soon
There are several boxers that boxing experts agree belong in boxing pound-for-pound lists. Here are five boxers that should be included in the conversation in the near future.
Pound-for-pound boxing lists are unofficial and subjective, but they’re fun to discuss. There are so many weight classes and titles, and it’s hard to assign credibility to titleholders in today’s boxing era.
These lists help to perpetuate a boxer’s legitimacy and respect. Out of all the pound-for-pound lists, the two that arguably the most valid are from Boxrec.com and ESPN.
Both lists agree on five boxers as top-10 talents. They both include Canelo Alvarez, Terence Crawford, Vasyl Lomachenko, Gennady Golovkin and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
They list these boxers in different orders, but they appear in both top-10 lists. ESPN has Vasyl Lomachenko in its top spot, and Boxrec.com has Canelo Alvarez as its number one.
They disagree on the remaining five spots. The boxers they disagree on are big names worthy of praise. ESPN’s list includes Errol Spence Jr., Keith Thurman, Mikey Garcia, Sergey Kovalev and Deontay Wilder.
In contrast, Boxrec.com fills out their remaining five spots with Luis Nery, Anthony Joshua, Miguel Berchelt, Jeff Horn and Leo Santa Cruz.
However, there are up and coming fighters that are poised to make a splash this year.
We’ve compiled a list of five boxers that are likely to make a campaign for pound-for-pound status in 2018. They aren’t the most popular boxers or the biggest names, but they will be in the near future.
