Oakland Raiders full 2018 NFL mock draft
By John Buhler
Wait, don’t the Raiders already have an elite offensive line? Yes, yes, they do, but you shouldn’t pass on an excellent collegiate guard the caliber of Will Hernandez out of UTEP if you can. Oakland already has Kelechi Osemele at left guard and Gabe Jackson at right guard. They’re excellent, but happens if they succumb to injury? How about Rodney Hudson at center?
In short, Hernandez will fall to the second round in the draft and he would be a wise selection for whatever team ends up taking him. He has a chance to be an instant starter in most cities, but maybe not with the Raiders. However, keep Derek Carr upright and having a reliable running game to lean on is paramount for the Silver and Black.
Hernandez is 6-foot-2, 327 pounds. He has 32-inch arms and 9 7/8 inch hands. At the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Hernandez ran a 5.15 40-yard dash ad put up 37 reps at 225 on the bench press. The guy was a standout for a winless Miners team in 2017. No doubt the guy wants to win as a rookie.
Oakland may have a great offensive line, but that all could change with Tom Cable now in charge of the position group. He may want to go in a different direction up front going forward. Hernandez could end up being a Pro Bowl level guard. It would be good to have him in-house should the Raiders have to move off a lineman prematurely for whatever reason.
