San Antonio Spurs wing Kyle Anderson showed that the tortoise and the hare parable works just fine for him in yesterday’s win versus the Houston Rockets.

When Kyle Anderson was in college, he was always deemed a quality basketball player with a high on-court IQ. Athleticism was never on his list of strong qualities but even with the Spurs, he’s made up for it with his strong play. This season, he’s even become a starter. But against the Houston Rockets this past Sunday afternoon ( April 1) he reminded us that his weakness can actually be a strength.

Anderson came into the league as a wing but has settled in as a power forward for the Spurs. In today’s NBA climate, you will find more out-of-position players than those in their correct position. Anderson’s lack of athleticism won’t matter as he has the size to play against others 4’s. Not only that, he has the intellect, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

"For the past five games, the fourth-year pro has been starting at power forward as the Spurs have gone smaller from the tip.“I think we have an advantage (with that lineup),” Anderson said before the Spurs faced Washington on Wednesday. “With me being able to pass the ball and handle the ball, it’s tough for a lot of fours to guard us.”The 6-foot-9 Anderson’s versatility has been a blessing and a curse for him. Throughout his first three seasons, coach Gregg Popovich couldn’t seem to find the best position for him."

Anderson’s versatility has helped propel the Spurs to the fourth seed and a 45-32 record. This has been a trying season for the Spurs, as they’ve been without Kawhi Leonard for all but nine games. But, the Spurs culture continues to push through, even if Anderson is a little slow keeping up.
