3. Greg Holland, RP, St. Louis Cardinals

Holland returned from a missed season in 2016 (Tommy John surgery) to lead the National League in saves last year with 41 for the Colorado Rockies. But a bad second half (6.38 ERA), highlighted by a bad August (13.50 ERA, three blown saves) led to a limited market for his services, after he turned down a $17.4 million qualifying offer from the Rockies.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed Holland to a one-year, $14 million deal on Opening Day, and he’s expected to join their bullpen next Monday after a couple of minor league outings to ramp up his arm strength and face hitters, He may be eased in at first, but the closer role should be Holland’s alone before long.

Holland was one of the best closers around prior to having elbow trouble, with 125 saves, a 1.97 ERA and a 12.5 K/9 for the Kansas City Royals from 2013-2015. Saves are the most unpredictable and interchangeable category in fantasy baseball each year, and even with Holland’s increasing ownership rates there’s still a good opportunity to add him.
