San Francisco 49ers full 2018 mock draft
By Joe Romano
Round 3 – Pick 70
Anthony Miller, WR, Memphis
San Francisco will spend this draft looking to improve the team around quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The franchise quarterback will need better weapons if he wants to continue the hot run he finished the 2017 season on. Pierre Garcon, who missed most of Garoppolo’s starts, will return as the team’s top receiving option. Marquise Goodwin emerged as an excellent deep threat for the 49ers last season and earned a new contract. Last year’s rookie Trent Taylor will be looked at to take a step forward as well.
This is a deep receiving class, but lacks any true game changers at the top. There will be receivers pushed down the boards because of the depth of the class. One of the best receivers who is seemingly getting lost in the shuffle is Memphis’ Anthony Miller.
A foot injury forced Miller to miss most of the pre-draft process. Representatives from all 32 teams were on hand for Miller’s only workout at Memphis’ pro day. Reports from that workout were extremely encouraging. However, concerns around his size and hands could push him down draft boards.
Miller is one of college football’s most productive during his time at Memphis. Despite only being 5-foot-11, the talented Tiger lined up all over the field. Pairing with quarterback Riley Ferguson, Miller showed off his track speed with excellent ability on deep balls. He is one of the best receivers at getting off the line of scrimmage with quick, efficient feet and movement. His best position may be in the slot but he more than holds his own on the outside.
