The Boston Bruins offense once again proves too much for the young Toronto Maple Leafs as the B’s take a commanding 2-0 series lead on Saturday night.

The Toronto Maple Leafs did not have the bounce back performance they were hoping for in Boston tonight. The Leafs started the game well, putting pressure on the Bruins, but Boston responded by getting on the board early and often.

The Boston Bruins spent most of the season dealing with injuries. The team is as healthy as they have been all year at the right time and they are proving to be too powerful for the Maple Leafs to handle. The Leafs had some good stretches and they outshot the Bruins in this one, but it was never close.

Boston opened the flood gates early, with first period goals from David Pastrnak, Jake DeBrusk, Kevan Miller and Rick Nash. Toronto answered back in the second with a goal from Zach Hymen but it was quickly matched by a David Krejci goal two minutes later. They left he second period down three after Tyler Bozak added a second Leafs goal.

The Bruins and Leafs traded goals in the third period, with Pastrnak netting his second of the game followed by a Jake Van Riemsdyk power play goal. Pastrnak added his third goal of the night (six points in total) late in the game with some beautiful stick work.

The Bruins top line had themselves a night. Marchand, Bergeron and Pastrnak combined for 14 points in the win. The Leafs will need to turn things around when they return home to Toronto on Monday night.

3 Stars

3. Patrice Bergeron

Bergeron continues to play at an extremely high level. He had four assists in this one while playing as his typical Selke-level dominant self. Since returning to the Bruins line up in late March, Bergeron looks as though he hadn’t missed a minute. The Bruins top line center is playing as good as anyone in the NHL right now.

2. Brad Marchand

Marchand was handing out assists instead of kisses tonight. He matched Bergeron’s production with four helpers of his own. Marchand provided energy to the Bruins top line once again, with several scoring chances on top of his assist total.

1. David Pastrnak

The star of the evening was definitely Pastrnak. The winger had three goals and three assists on the evening. Pasta and his line mates continue to thrive and are cementing themselves as the top line in hockey right now. Pastrnak showed some fancy stick work in the win and though he has been good all season, he is playing at an even higher level through the first two games of the post season.
