Vancouver Canucks: Raffi Torres

NHL journeyman and all-around bad person Raffi Torres can’t play clean hockey, but he can grow a hell of a playoff beard. Torres’ career is littered with controversy, as the multiple-time offender has served 21- and 41-game suspensions (as well as several smaller suspensions and fines) for hits to the head.

Torres was an NHL journeyman, often added to teams for the toughness he brought to the game. When the Vancouver Canucks signed him in 2011, he brought that toughness to the Canucks’ playoff run that ended with a Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup.

Torres holds the record for the longest NHL suspension (not including lifetime bans) at 41 games. He received this for a hit to the head on Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg in a preseason game. Torres collected 497 penalty minutes and 260 points in 635 career NHL games with eight different teams.

While it is difficult to say anything nice about Torres, it’s hard not to compliment his ability to grow a great beard.
