Daniel Bryan vs. Big Cass

I don’t think this is what most people had in mind for Daniel Bryan’s first program after returning to in-ring action. And no, I’m not counting the Owens and Zayn stuff because that was always more about Shane McMahon and Bryan was thrown in there to help sell the match at WrestleMania 34.

So Big Cass comes back as a heel and isn’t happy that his comeback after an injury wasn’t as hyped up as Bryan’s was. I suppose it works, but the whole thing feels a little lazy to me. It doesn’t help that this is another take on the classic “big guy vs. little guy” angle, but this is a big deal for Cass. He had finally rid himself of Enzo and then he goes down. It was a bit of bad luck, and WWE is showing a lot of faith by throwing him in there with one of WWE’s most popular stars. I think that most thought that Bryan and The Miz would get right into it when Miz came over to the blue brand, but that’s not quite happening yet, even if we did get a little tease recently. So this is essentially just a holdover match for both guys.

Prediction: This is actually a tough call. On one hand, this is Daniel Bryan. He’s been gone for three years and is obviously destined to compete for big championships against big stars down the line so his momentum can’t be stopped now, especially after he just set the record for the longest time ever spent in a Royal Rumble. But Big Cass was also the one to throw him out. How I’d play it out is have The Miz lose his Intercontinental Championship Match (more on that in a few minutes) and take out his frustration by making Daniel Bryan lose as well. Bryan doesn’t look weak, Cass gets a big win and everyone is happy. But that seems just a little too easy. DB gets the win here.
