FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Thursday, May 10
Reds at Dodgers
Reds Probable Starter – Tyler Mahle, RHP
4.35 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 9.61 K/9
Vs LHH – .250 average, .382 wOBA and 48.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .256 average, .303 wOBA and 31.0 hard contact rate
Mahle has some really weird splits. The average is close for both but the wOBA sees a big split and his fly ball rate against lefties is almost eight percentage points higher. His strikeouts have been there but I think some Dodgers lefties could be interesting tonight. A player like Joc Pederson is a great salary saving option and can help open up the rest of the options.
Dodgers Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Cody Bellinger, Yasmani Grandal, Joc Pederson
Secondary Options – Chris Taylor, Matt Kemp
Dodgers Probable Starter – Walker Buehler, RHP
1.13 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 10.69 K/9
Vs LHH – .120 average, .169 wOBA and 13.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .226 average, .256 wOBA and 45.5 hard contact rate
I really haven’t made up my mind about Buehler tonight. Typically, I’ll jump on young prospects like this whenever they break into MLB and show their talent. The young gun did just that his last time out, racking up 52 FanDuel points against the Padres. The catch is he didn’t allow a hit and that’s the perfect scenario. He has no room for error because the Dodgers are going to treat him with kid gloves. He’s virtually guaranteed to not go past six innings. $8,600 seems pricey but is actually not terrible on this slate. I don’t really want to target hits against Buehler because he’s got the talent and pedigree to back up this hot start.
Reds Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Joey Votto, Eugenio Suarez
Home Run Pick – Joc Pederson
Cardinals at Padres
Cardinals Probable Starter – Miles Mikolas, RHP
2.70 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 6.98 K/9
Vs LHH – .259 average, .297 wOBA and 40.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .205 average, .236 wOBA and 28.1 hard contact rate
Even without a high strikeout rate, Mikolas is likely going to be one of the more popular plays on the slate. He draws the Padres which is appealing in and of itself. He’s got four straight starts with at least 40 FanDuel points because he’s been getting deep into the games, racking up quality starts and wins. He’s got an excellent chance at both of those things tonight. Just remember, he doesn’t have much to fall back on if he gets touched up a little bit. The strikeouts just aren’t there for Mikolas at this point.
Padres Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Eric Hosmer, Franchy Cordero
Padres Probable Starter – Jordan Lyles, RHP
3.66 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 7.32 K/9
Vs LHH – .267 average, .368 wOBA and 36.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .143 average, .188 wOBA and 25.8 hard contact rate
These stats for Lyles need to be taken with a grain of salt as he’s been working out of the bullpen this year. It will be his first start and it’s not the easiest road to hoe tonight against St. Louis. The Cardinals should be getting Tommy Pham back tonight. Pham has missed the past three games with a groin injury and there is a little bit of risk with him tonight if it flares up again. Still, $3,700 is a tempting price tag. I’d prefer lefty bats to an extent but Lyles may not be going past five innings in the best case scenario. I wouldn’t get too hung up on splits.
Cardinals Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Tommy Pham, Matt Carpenter
Secondary Options – Marcell Ozuna, Paul DeJong
Home Run Pick – Marcell Ozuna
Sample Lineup
P – Mike Foltynewicz
C/1B – Lucas Duda
2B – Whit Merrifield
3B – Mike Moustakas
SS – Xander Bogaerts
OF – Charlie Blackmon, David Dahl, Joc Pederson
Utility – Carlos Gonzalez
This lineup takes a bit of a risk with the pitcher but that’s just about anyone on the slate tonight. Duda was about the only player that showed up for us yesterday and is in an even better spot today. Merrfield is on the “wrong” side of the splits but righties smack Chris Tillman around as well as lefties. Moustakas is a great play and shortstop is kind of tough tonight. I’ll side with Bogaerts just on the talent and being under $4,000. From there, we take the Rockies outfield and top it off with Pederson.
Stacks To Consider – Brewers or Rockies, Royals(at Baltimore), Blue Jays(vs Seattle), Nationals(at Arizona) and Cardinals(at Padres)
