Giants at Pirates

Giants Probable Starter – Jeff Samardzija, RHP

6.62 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 7.64 K/9

Vs LHH – .400 average, .538 wOBA and 40.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .167 average, .215 wOBA and 28.1 hard contact rate

When the veteran righty gets left handers under control, he’s going to be right back to being a usable pitcher. Now, I don’t know when that’s going to be. The Bucs also have some quality lefty bats to take advantage of Samardzija struggling so badly. The Pirates went nuts yesterday and appear to be in another prime spot today. At the same time, Samardzija is actually a solid GPP play. He didn’t struggle this badly against lefties last year and the Pirates offense can be up and down.

Pirates Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Corey Dickerson, Adam Frazier, Colin Moran

Secondary Options – Josh Bell

Pirates Probable Starter – Chad Kuhl, RHP

4.12 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 8.24 K/9

Vs LHH – .303 average, .423 wOBA and 36.0 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .224 average, .272 wOBA and 30.8 hard contact rate

You can legitimately argue that you could just do a large stack of lefty bats in this game for a tournament and be alright, even in a pitcher’s park. Kuhl has always struggled with lefty hitters and there’s one big lefty bat for the Giants that’s on my radar. Brandon Belt has been a little quiet lately but he’s in a fantastic spot this evening. He’s also down to $3,600 which makes it more comfortable to play him. Gregor Blanco doesn’t have a ton of pop but is at a reasonable price as well. Kuhl is in play as a tournament option as well since Belt is the one big lefty bat in the lineup.
