Winner: Devin Booker

For the Phoenix Suns, the world is suddenly their oyster. They could select DeAndre Ayton, an athletic freak of a center with an incredibly unique offensive skill set, who also happened to play one season for the University of Arizona. Or they could go for Luka Doncic, the prodigy who helped lead the Suns new head coach, Igor Kokoskov, and Slovenia to the championship of last summer’s EuroBasket tournament.

Whether it’s one of those two or someone else, the Suns have the chance to add a talent who can help solidify their core, make Booker’s job easier and push the rest of their talented young players into defined roles. Dragan Bender, Marquese Chriss, Josh Jackson — the Suns have young talent, what they’ve been lacking is a binding element to hold that potential and Booker’s present together.

Drafting No. 1 is a lot of pressure too. If the Suns make a mistake, they have no one to blame but themselves. But having all the options spread before them is the best position to be in. The Suns are going to add someone who makes them better, and who helps Booker push closer to his ceiling.
