28. Aleksandr Golovin, Midfielder, Russia

Elegance and creativity in midfield define the squad chosen to represent the host nation. No player embodies those qualities more than Aleksandr Golovin.

A rising star at CSKA Moscow, Golovin proved his worth this season. The 21-year-old scored seven times and helped himself to four assists.

Golovin’s wonderful free-kick against Arsenal in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg showcased his growing technical acumen. The Gunners have been linked with a move for this classy playmaker for a reason.

Russia can play an ambitious brand of football if they grant Golovin freedom to roam the final third. His link up with CSKA team-mate Alan Dzagoev should ensure the hosts aren’t lacking for goals.
